Sooryavanshi is an upcoming 2020 Indian Hindi language action film directed by Rohit Shetty, and produced by Shetty and Karan Johar under their banner of Rohit Shetty Picturez and Dharma Productions respectively, in association with Reliance Entertainment and Cape Of Good Films. It is the costliest cop film ever made in the history of Indian cinema.The film stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role along with Katrina Kaif as the female lead.[1][2]
Kumar's character as Veer Sooryavanshi was announced towards the end of the police universe spin-off film Simmba that served as a character introduction of Sooryavanshi.[3] Akshay Kumar will be playing DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, Chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad.
On 5 March 2019, the day when two posters of the film were out, Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty announced that they have planned to release the film on 22 May 2020, coinciding with the festival Eid-ul-Fitr. Later, in April 2019, actor Salman Khan announced that he will be reuniting with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a romantic drama titled Inshallah, which will co-star Alia Bhatt. Khan, whose films release mainly during Eid-ul-Fitr, announced that Inshallah will release on Eid 2020 i.e. 22 May 2020, so this will be a big clash between Inshallah and Sooryavanshi.
Later, it was announced on 12 June 2019 by Khan and Shetty that the release date of Sooryavanshi is pushed to 27 March 2020.
